Magento vs Shopify: Choosing the Right Platform — Robosoft Blog

Both can run a serious online store. The right choice depends on how much control you need versus how much you want the platform to handle for you.

What Shopify gets right

Shopify (and Shopify Plus for larger merchants) handles hosting, security patching and infrastructure scaling for you, with a large app ecosystem covering most common needs out of the box. For most direct-to-consumer stores, this is the faster and lower-maintenance path.

Where Magento pulls ahead

Magento (and Adobe Commerce) gives you full control over the codebase, data model and hosting environment — which matters once your requirements go beyond what a theme and a handful of apps can cover: complex B2B pricing rules, multi-warehouse inventory logic, or deep ERP integration that needs to reach into checkout logic itself.

The integration question, either way

Both platforms can connect to CRM, ERP, billing and accounting systems — the difference is depth. Shopify integrations typically work through its API and app framework; Magento integrations can go deeper into the platform's own logic when a simple API sync isn't enough. Neither is automatically the safer choice — it depends on how tightly your store needs to be woven into the rest of your business systems.

A practical way to decide

If your store's requirements fit within what a strong theme and well-chosen apps can deliver, Shopify gets you there faster with less ongoing maintenance. If you're hitting walls with checkout logic, B2B pricing, or integration depth that off-the-shelf apps can't reach, that's usually the signal to look seriously at Magento or Adobe Commerce.
